INFO ABOUT SILVER PLATED JEWELRY:
Each piece has been plated in a very thick layer of sterling silver. The electroplate is thick enough to stand up to daily/regular wear, but keep in mind that to prolong the life of the silver plate, it would be wise to remove your jewelry before swimming, bathing, sleeping, and strenuous activities. Be aware that adjustable pieces have been made slightly more rigid once they are plated, and you must bend them very gently to avoid cracking the plate.
Silver is known to darken when it oxidizes, and sometimes the patina can rub off onto skin. Our cuffs have been coated in a commercial-grade chromate, which serves to protect silver from oxidation and thus prevent it from tarnishing. This layer will eventually wear off, exposing the silver beneath. If the silver does tarnish, you can simply remove it with a jewelry polishing cloth.
INFO ABOUT GOLD PLATED JEWELRY:
Each piece has been plated in a very thick layer of 14k gold. The electroplate is thick enough to stand up to daily/regular wear, but keep in mind that to prolong the life of the gold plate, it would be wise to remove your jewelry before swimming, bathing, sleeping, and strenuous activities.
INFO ABOUT COPPER/BRASS JEWELRY:
Each piece has been polished and sealed with a jeweler’s wax. Over time, copper and brass will oxidize and become darker as it ages. This process is known as patination and you can easily remove the patina and shine your piece back up with a jewelry polishing cloth.
Copper jewelry is also known to cause “greening” of the skin. This is not an allergic reaction to copper (a copper allergy is actually quite rare), but a very typical consequence of wearing copper jewelry. The degree of greening largely depends on the wearer, as it is another oxidation process that occurs when the metal comes into contact with the skin’s natural oils. For some, greening never occurs, while others experience it regularly. If soap and water doesn’t remove the green coloration from the skin, a non-gel toothpaste will do the trick.
If you are purchasing a wedding ring/heirloom piece/something you want to last for several years, you must avoid being rough on your jewelry and remove it before bathing, sleeping, swimming, working with your hands, using tools, etc. I am personally very hard on my jewelry and my pieces have stood up to heavy wear with minimal visible damage to the gold/silver plate and no skin greening after several months. The better care you take of your jewelry, the longer it will last. I would rank our jewelry above standard costume jewelry, but below fine jewelry in terms of quality and durability.
I am currently not accepting custom orders at this time. I apologize for any inconvenience.
